What is an holistic therapy? There are many reasons for dis -
ease within the body, which holistic therapies address physically,
emotionally and spiritually. During consultation you will
be asked a variety of questions designed to assess your
medical condition and lifestyle. A treatment plan will be
discussed with you and all our clinic resources will be
available to bring you to optimum health.
AROMATHERAPY: For centuries the essences of flowers, herbs and
plants have been used medicinally, aesthetically and spiritually.
The great apothecaries such as
Nicholas Culpepper suggested the use of, for example, Peppermint
(Mentha Piperita) as a remedy for complaints of the stomach
… “all mints are astringent and great strengtheners
of the stomach. They take off nauseousness, retchings and
looseness. The simple water given to children removes the
gripes.”* Today Peppermint Tea is used and is helpful
in treating insomnia, anxiety and dizziness. Peppermint
oil is used in massage for its cooling, antiseptic and decongesting
properties plus its wonderfully uplifting, confidence inducing
effects.
Black Pepper (Piper Nigrum) however, has the opposite effect
and is “comforting and warming to a cold stomach”*,
it is used to aid digestion and relieve digestive complaints.
The essential oil is one of the best stimulants for the
digestive system as well as psychologically warming and
strengthening the emotions.
Each of the oils used in aromatherapy treatment have particular
attributes and when blended together can help alleviate
many ailments whilst balancing the mind and body.
An aromatherapy massage cocoons you in the aroma of the
oils, whilst allowing the properties to work at healing
and relaxing the mind, body and spirit.

REFLEXOLOGY: is a treatment primarily carried out on the feet.
Each foot is divided into five longitudinal zones with zone
1 running from the big toe to the heel – stand with
feet together and you will see zone 1 represents the spine.
Within each zone there are reflex points relating to the
major organs and areas of the body, it is believed by stimulating
these points the body is encouraged to activate and clear
itself of any toxin build-up which may in the future cause
disease. During treatment you may find the therapist touches
a point, which feels tender or even gives a sharp pain,
indicating excess toxins, by careful manipulation of these
points your discomfort will ease.
Reflexology is an extremely relaxing and effective treatment,
whilst lying warmly covered and listening to soft music
many people drift into a comforting sleep.
INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE: is derived from the barbers shops in India where
hairdressing is part of ones health regime – not only
do they cut and style hair but also massage the head, scalp
and neck ensuring wonderfully conditioned hair and stress-free
clients!
In this country we use it as an holistic
therapy for treating head and neck tension, eye strain,
sinusitis, jaw ache and a really soothing de-stress treatment.
Treatment begins at the shoulders releasing tension in the
upper back and arms, following onto the neck and scalp and
finishing with a gentle face massage.
This is a lovely treatment …… but don’t
forget your brush or comb.
How can holistic therapies help me?
Each of these therapies is designed to relax and de-stress
you, it is time for you to just “be” and allow
yourself to let go.
You can use them as an aid to maintaining good health, a
pick-me-up or to help alleviate aches and pains caused by
illness. If you suffer with tension headaches, muscle strain,
oedema - swelling of the legs and ankles particularly, PMT,
menopausal symptoms, digestive complaints, or emotional
upset caused by stress just call into the clinic to discuss
which treatment would suit you best.
