I
first visited Dr Revell at the Lushington Chiropractic Clinic, with the
purpose of eliminating the headaches I suffered from due to the tension
in my neck. Dr Revell on examination of my symptoms and having gained full
understanding of my medical history came to the conclusion that an old whip
lash injury was to blame for my current condition coupled with my tendency
to slouch. During each appointment he manipulated my neck and back into
its correct position and gave me a set of exercises to help strengthen my
muscles and improve my posture. The results I am delighted to say were a
resounding success and have improved not only my physical self but have
given me an understanding of the cause and effect of bad posture or injuries
and how to combat them accordingly.
For anyone suffering from any type
of back complaint I highly recommend paying the Lushington Chiropractic
Clinic a visit. The staff are extremely helpful and easy to talk to and
you can feel secure in the knowledge you are receiving the best professional
care available.

I would
highly recommend Dr James Revell.
On Saturday 23rd June, I lifted
my dog and my back gave way. I fell to my knees with the pain and I could
not move. I eventually got up and my upper body was leaning 6” to
the left.
I was recommended Dr Revell by a friend.
On Monday 25th June I had my first consultation with
Dr Revell (within 2 hours of telephoning for a consultation.)
There followed another appointment on Tuesday 16th and
Friday 29th June. By the Wednesday I was almost upright. By the following
Monday, 2nd July (1 week from my first consultation) i was back at work.
I have had a further 4 more appointments and I am back doing everything
I was doing before.
I am following the exercises recommended by Dr Revell
these along with the initial cold pack treatment recommended by Dr Revell
have been marvellous. I would have no hesitation recommending Dr Revell.
I have been very, very please with the excellent treatment
I have received.

Dr Revell
was recommended to me by a friend who had been receiving successful treatment
for his painful knees from Dr Revell. My friend was sure that Chiropractic
treatment would help my aching/painful hip. I took his advice and rather
reluctantly on 23rd February 07 saw Dr Revell. My hip and knee had been
painful since October 06 and were progressively worsening. I was in constant
pain, had sleepless nights (I could not lie on either side comfortably)
could not climb stairs properly (there are 52 here at ‘Beachside’)
could not get in or out of the car easily and found carrying shopping impossible.
The appointments with the GP had yielded no satisfactory results and waiting
for an appointment with the physio department at the DGH was taking forever.
So I decided that I had to find an alternative route to help me –
as I was convinced I was wheelchair bound and would have to end my employment,
which would be difficult and impossible at this time.
I
contacted Dr Revell and after his initial diagnosis his verdict was that
my injured back (some 5 years previously) and my poor posture were the
cause of my pain. Dr Revell explained very carefully what was happening
to my spine, my muscles, joints and nerves, particularly in relation to
my right hip and left knee. As I had thought my left leg and knee were
compensating for lack of proper use of my right hip and leg and were being
overworked.
So I began intensive treatment initially 2/3 times a
week. The treatment was short and very painful at first but after each
session there was a marked improvement and decrease of pain. As February
and March passed the sessions became weekly and now I have a 10 day gap
between appointments which will become a 2 week gap and eventually my
appointments will be monthly. Because of my arthritic hip I will not be
forever cured but the simple stretch exercises just once a day for 30
seconds each help instantly and remove any niggly pain and as for years
I have eliminated certain foods which aggravate my arthritic condition
(which is now only slight apart from my hip) I’m sure I can remain
fit healthy and mobile, and stand up straight for the rest of my life.
I’m 68, weigh between 8-9 stone and was
5’9 but naturally I’m shrinking as gravity pulls me down!
And so I really appreciate the treatment received from Dr Revell. Over
the last 4 months and I am able to carry on being pain free and mobile,
able to climb stairs properly and hop in and out of the car, I walk at
my normal speed too. I thank him so much and I should have made my first
appointment weeks before I did. Hopefully one day the NHS will include
Chiropractic treatment along with all the other treatments it provides.

a year the pain has gone. No drugs at all were used the Chiropractic team
are brill
Three cheers for Dr James Revell!
In December
1962 i contracted a mysterious illness and each day i felt my limbs becoming
weaker, numb and painful. Its progress began from my toes and became more
widespread as it reached my waistline and halted. It was not a remission
as i first thought as a week later it attacked my fingers, hands and arms.
Paralysis set in and i was unable to walk or do anything for myself.
I
was admitted to Brooke Hospital and placed in a ‘Terminal Ward’
(although at the time i never knew).
Many operations came my way such as lumbar puncture
(not recommended), it was a very painful experience and the length of
the needles they stuck into your spine was enough to send shivers down
it. You had to stay awake for this operation. You were then strapped face
downwards on a trolley until such a time it was deemed it was safe for
you to be moved.
Many moths were spent at the Brooke and after many such
ops, i was discharged from the hospital ‘Incurable’.
My time in a wheelchair had come!
It was my own Doctor, Dr Kerr and a nurse from Brooke
Hospital who came to my rescue. Physiotherapy, massage and gentle exercise
were the order of the day and eventually after three years i was able
to dispense with the wheelchair – it was a shaky start.
Later on in 1970, i was diagnose as having multiple
sclerosis and although i was able to walk quite well, my arms, hands and
fingers were going to be difficult to control.
Rushing ahead in time when in 1976 i met Geoffrey (Max)
Dickson, who practiced reflexology and every week i attended for treatment.
He kept me going.
Other things were beginning to happen in my body and
i was experiencing discomfort again and i needed other treatment apart
from reflexology.
Further more i suffered terribly with migraines which
started when i reached my 24th birthday, usually this happened every three
weeks. Max tried every week to rid me of this, but to no avail, until
later on he gave me a ‘Migraine Drain’ which he performed
several years ago which kept them at bay for six years, but they restarted
now and again.
At the time i asked him why he had waited before giving
me that treatment and the simple answer was ‘I was not ready to
receive it!’
My wife came across Dr Revell (Chiropractor), she was
receiving treatment from him and she explained to him my plight. MS was
beginning to become a nuisance and so a consultation was arranged and
i approached with much hesitation and negativity.
I was unable to move my head to the left or right as
my neck was crumbling, my back had a curvature, i had trapped nerves in
my shoulders and arms and my migraine had returned for another season.
I owe Dr Revell a tremendous amount for giving me back
my life. I can now do most things in reasonable comfort. Although my MS
is still with me, he and Mari-Anne Elder (Massage and Body Work Practitioner)
keep me going!
I see Dr Revell once a month and Mari-Anne Elder every
two weeks, and it’s worth every penny!

Having read
in the ‘In Style’ magazine about the experience of a patient
attending the above clinic (Eastbourne Family Chiropractic) I would like
to endorse all that he has said.
In my care it was ‘if at
first you don’t succeed try try again’. After some 40 plus
years of back pain, about 5 years ago I thought I would try a chiropractor.
I must say he did help me a lot but I could not expect miracles as I suffer
with arthritis, osteoarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. After many
visits I thought he had done all he could for me and stopped seeing him.
A few moths ago I was in more pain than usual and having
heard Dr Revell on the local radio I decided to pay him a visit. I have
been currently attending his clinic for 4 weeks now and have found he
has a different approach to the previous chiropractor and although he
cannot cure me I am enjoying considerable relief from pain and have greater
mobility. I really am glad that I decided to try a chiropractor again.

After months
of being unable to walk and in excruciating pain and many visits to the
hospital, with several x-rays, scans, epidurals and overnight and weeks
as an in-patient, I finally was recommended to you.
What a difference
the explanations and help I received from you was ‘bar-none’
then knew what was wrong and what I had, after being told at the hospital
there was nothing more they could do and that I might never walk again.
Then after the first treatment I felt the difference and over the second
and third visits I was almost walking normally again, now I feel as if
I have been given new legs, its all due to you and your marvellous treatment
and help.
I can’t thank you enough and would recommend you
to anyone, to come along and see you feel human again.

My story
begun a couple of months ago, when I was involved in a serious ‘head
on’ road traffic accident. I suffered whiplash, cracked ribs and bruised
collarbone and associated cuts and bruises. I spent a month in severe pain
with headaches and a stiff neck. The hospital consultant prescribed painkillers
to help me cope. I was well aware that the painkillers were just masking
the pain, not addressing the cause of the problem.
My
GP suggested I visit Dr Revell (chiropractor) at the Apollo Centre next
door to the GP’s surgery.
My first visit to Dr Revell started with a consultation,
which lasted about 45 minutes. Dr Revell spent time discussing my past
history asking questions about the accident, illnesses and family medical
history. This was followed with a thorough physical examination of my
neck and back concentrating on the joints, nerves and muscles. Dr Revell
then explained in detail the cause of my symptoms and what he could do
for me, how long it would take, how much treatment would be required and
how much it would cost me.
Initially it was decided I would benefit from two visits
a week. Dr Revell made gentle adjustments to my neck and spine. Only the
areas of my body that needed treatment were actually treated during each
visit. The sessions lasted about 10-15 minutes. Dr Revell skilfully used
his hands to manipulate the joints of my spine. The adjustments didn’t
hurt or cause me any discomfort. The feeling of instant relief was unreal.
I found that on some visits I received few adjustments
and on other visits I received several. I started feeling the benefits
after two or three sessions. I was feeling much better after just a couple
of weeks. The nice thing about Chiropractic treatment is the fact that
no drugs or surgery are involved.
As Dr Revell explained, Chiropractic works by identifying
the underlying cause of the problem and correcting it rather than just
relying on painkillers. Instead of putting something in or taking something
out of my body it’s enabling my body to heal itself naturally.
I can’t thank Dr Revell enough for his part in
my return journey to my normal health, pain free life prior to the accident.
Keith from Eastbourne
After
nearly ten years of back and neck pain I met Dr Revell, from the very
first appointment I knew there was a future free from pain. After a few
sessions I was able to start low impact exercise and then started running
(slowly!) The pain in my back quickly became manageable and the following
year I completed the London Marathon, this was a dream I felt I would
never have achieved without James.
Alan Wood from Old Town
After
two years of GP and hospital appointments including an MRI scan, I was
told that the problem in my lower back, which was causing me to limp and
walk awkwardly was something I should try and ‘learn to live with’.
The nerves to my leg and foot were damaged. A friend suggested that I
try a chiropractor. I wish the hospital had made the same suggestion.
After two months my back is pain free and my walking is much improved.
My treatment continues – worth every penny!!!

As I am now
well down the road to recovery I thought it might be useful and would
complement your observation and notes if I wrote to you of this patient’s
perspective of your treatment.
I presented to you on February 13th 2007 in a very unhappy state of mind
because I was experiencing rapidly diminishing mobility and intense pain
in one foot and also pain in the opposite knee. I was only able to walk
short distances badly and this in turn was causing increasing back pain.
As a woman of 65 years I hoped that you might be able to offer me some
relief from pain but I did not have overambitious expectations of what
might be achieved.
During the early intensive treatment phase I felt almost immediate relief,
pain lessened and my spirits lifted. However, what has been so wonderful
and exciting for me is the improvement has continued. I have now had thirteen
sessions with you, am completely pain free and very thrilled by the level
of mobility that you have regained for me. The good work will continue
as we both feel there are further improvements to be made.
For me Chiropractic involves partnership and a positive relationship between
the practitioner and the patient. The patient cannot be passive. Each
has a part to play if optimum results are to be realised.
The concept of treating the causes of pain and not the symptoms and to
do this without drug therapy has to be the right way forward. I would
recommend chiropractic to anyone.
I am so delighted to be able to thank you for your chiropractic skills
and great care. I was fortunate when I met you and I am comforted to know
that treatment will always be available to me as and when I need it.
Anne from Eastbourne
Having suffered
with lower back problems for several years I decided it was time to seek
help. I therefore made an appointment with Dr Revell at the Apollo clinic.
After my initial consultation Dr Revell explained what
was wrong. Whilst feeling apprehensive about this everything was explained
in great detail and the actual treatment sessions were not painful. Following
treatment and a few simple daily exercises advised by Dr Revell my back
was getting much stronger. Unfortunately I suffered a setback by turning
awkwardly but following immediate treatment my spine returned to normal
within two days and I was able to play golf again, something I would never
have been able to do so soon without this course of treatment.
Mrs Fox from Hampden Park
I was doing
my bit to get fit by joining an exercise class as we were asked to do sit
ups, I found this almost impossible as the pain in my neck became unbearable.
After suffering all over the weekend I read an article
in the local paper advertising the Apollo Centres for Health Family Chiropractic
Clinic. It read as follows ‘no need to suffer in pain or be dependant
on painkillers’. Not knowing anything about a chiropractor but believing
in alternative medicine, I knew I had done the right thing the moment
I meet my chiropractor. I was put at ease immediately.
Meeting Dr Revell and going through past history regarding
the pain in my neck and shoulders and sometimes a numb heavy feeling in
my arm I was made aware that damage had been done over many years i.e.
general wear and tear and also bad posture. After suffering pain in my
neck and shoulders for many years and thinking that it was just tension
and stress, what a relief to know somebody is out there who can help.
Dr Revell explained to me the workings of my muscles
in the neck and spine, also he told me that it would not get better overnight
as it had taken many years to become like that. I am having treatment
twice a week at the Clinic but also I have to do exercises at home to
help the healing process.
I was asked how much better I was feeling and I rated
this to be about 60%. I am very grateful to Dr Revell and my only regret
is that I had not been seen sooner – like 10 years ago.

As a new
mum you try to get your new born baby to settle and sleep; rocking them
for hours, walking them in the pushchair after every feed, as well as the
old faithful trick of driving them in the car until they fall asleep. For
me it got to the point that I could not even put Joshua down without him
crying, I was desperate to get him to settle.
For weeks I had been attending
a post-natal group, which meet every Tuesday. On one certain session a
lady came in to talk to us about exercises that we should be doing as
well as chiropractic treatment which is available to help us, as well
as our babies. I was a bit sceptical about how it could help Joshua, however,
I thought I would go and see what they could do.
I met Dr Revell and he was very understanding. He talked
me through the treatment he gives and how it can only have a positive
affect on Joshua. After just a few sessions I was confident that the treatment
could help Joshua. After just a few sessions he was sleeping through the
night as well as napping in the day time, something he had never done
before. I could not believe it, it was amazing what Dr Revell had done.
Continuing on from Joshua’s treatment, I too started
seeing Dr Revell for complaints that I had with my lower back, due to
accidents which happened before I fell pregnant. Two months down the line
and my back is so much better, I don’t get any pain in my lower
back when I pick Joshua up.
The treatment doesn’t just stop in the treatment
room. Dr Revell and receiving chiropractic treatment has had a real positive
effect on both Joshua and I.
I would recommend it to everyone.
Debbie from Eastbourne
A simple
episode, lifting some shopping, severe back pain, then the problem of what
to do.
The obvious point of call was the doctor. My regular
practitioner was on holiday and in consequence I saw a locum who describes
my condition as ‘spondylitis’. The remedy prescribed was a
concoction of drugs. A – to relieve pain and B – to counteract
inflammation, I asked if a visit to the Osteopath would be helpful. As
the response was positive I adopted this procedure which resulted in my
status of a walking wounded, degenerating into that of a crawling mewing
animal.
The osteopath variously described my condition as sciatica,
a torn hamstring and a slipped disc. Treatment included a few days bed
rest, manipulation and some prescribed exercises. The more treatment I
received, the worse I was getting.
The last appointment, a Friday, with him required a
home visit as I was virtually immobile. When the session had finished
I was told to make an appointment for the following Tuesday or Thursday,
whichever day I could walk into his practice and to ask my doctor to prescribe
some diazepam to relax the muscles. As I could only move on all fours,
fat chance of me making any appointment. Perhaps he found me too difficult
a challenge.
By a happy accident, a radio broadcast, I discovered
a chiropractic solution. No drugs, just mostly gentle manipulation, an
exercise program, and someone whom I could believe in. I have assiduously
followed the prescribed treatment course and have greatly benefited. It
has been difficult at times, but I am now walking and gradually recovering.
It is no quick fix solution but as the improvement has been significant,
I am confident that it will prove to be a long-term solution as my body
is healing without the recourse to drugs.

Treatment
on my back by Dr James Revell – May – June 2007
At
the beginning of May 2007 I experienced severe back pain following a bout
of coughing and sneezing the result of which I could not straighten up
and was in agony for some while. The painkillers I took did not effect
a result and in the end I resorted to ringing up the Apollo Centre in
Eastbourne where I had been told there was a practising chiropractor.
Having arranged an initial visit at the Apollo Centre
where Dr James Revell made a very thorough examination of my back and
having established that I had a long standing history of back pain, caused
I was told by my GP, who retired some 5 years ago, by my indulgence in
athletic activity, namely high jump (where landing in hard sand caused
a lot of jolting) and long jump and hurdling, where the initial technique
of taking off with my right foot, and subsequently when I changed to the
Fosbury Flop in the high jump the early beds left a lot to be desired.
Modern beds take into account quite a few safety aspects, the early beds
were lumps of foam rubber lumped together and one could easily fall between
the pieces right through to the surface (mainly hard sand) below. One
bed at Twickenham contained office fingerettes of all sizes and again
this was defiantly not the best of surfaces to land on. Subsequently,
I did sustain injury to my back and actually consulted a chiropractor
in Eastbourne who x-rayed my back, said I had slight damage to my pelvis
and also arthritis in the middle of my back. A period of treatment did
help but I always had a problem and learned to live with the pain as one
does.
However, the sustained treatment I have had from Dr
James Revell at the Lushington Road Chiropractic Clinic has meant that
after 14 treatments I am virtually pain free for the first time in years
and have even managed to have a few practice throws with the discus without
pain or injury and am contemplating throwing in a Veterans meeting at
Lewes on the 18th July.
This is a tribute to the treatment I have received from
Dr James Revell. He has endeavoured to encourage me to walk for 10 minutes
each hour, although this is quite a problem when I am at work as in 6
hours would lose an hour’s work on the computer or from seeing client’s,
and is not a viable proposition, but it has prompted me to ‘hang
up my spikes’ as it were and hand in my notice. I would mention
that all my working life I have spent a large part of every day in front
of a typewriter initially for 31 years and a computer for the last 22
years and have just reached my 72nd birthday and would no doubt have continued
for some while yet, but I am now going to be able to throw the discus,
all being well. However, I do not anticipate taking up high jump and long
jump again or hurdling! I will leave this to the younger generation.
Finally, in conclusion I would have no hesitation in
recommending the treatment of Dr James Revell who has transformed my life
from one of constant pain to one where I am virtually pain free at present.
It is my belief that without the treatment I would still be doubled up
with the pain.
Ms J.E.L from Eastbourne
My neck
was giving me hell and headaches, so my wife suggested I see a chiropractor
and with some trepidation I did just that. No need for any qualms within
one month I was 50% better and headaches were almost gone. Within two months
100% better and the headaches were few and far between.
He
also found a minor back problem, which I did not know about. I can now
dig my garden without constantly stopping to straighten my back and having
a rest. Whoopee!!!
Mr P. M from Eastbourne
Having been
a sufferer for some time of neck and headaches, ranging from the back of
my head to over my eyes, I made an appointment to see Dr Revell –
Chiropractor.
I had previously had physio, on 2 or 3 separate
occasions which was a short-term answer after a whiplash injury some years
previous.
The headaches were the thing that bothered me the most
and I did not want to continually take painkillers. Over the past six
months I found I was getting headaches more and more frequently until
I had a headache nearly everyday.
After a process of elimination, eye tests etc I was
still suffering from the headaches and began to think that these were
probably connected to my neck pain.
My first appointment with Dr Revell consisted of an
initial consultation lasting about 45 minutes. This was very thorough
and explained to me in detail. A small amount of treatment was administered,
after which I found my neck had a lot more movement.
I then saw Dr Revell for treatment twice a week for
three weeks. I did feel tired at times because your body has to do a lot
of healing, but with the help of strengthening exercises and a chill pad
my headaches and neck pain have all but stopped, except if I over do things.
Without a doubt treatment has made a huge improvement
to my well-being. I wish I had sought treatment sooner.
